With Queen Mary she provided weekly luxury liner service between Southampton in the United Kingdom and New York City in the United States via Cherbourg in France. The ship was completely destroyed by the fire and the water sprayed on her by fireboats caused the burnt wreck to sink in Hong Kongs Victoria Harbour.
