Alaskan Cruise Better On Left Of Right Of Ship
Even seeing whales is hit or miss unless you spend hours watching for them.
Alaskan cruise better on left of right of ship. While we understand that one may think that the right side of the ship starboard side is better for scenery on a Northbound cruise and the left side port side better on a Southbound cruise this isnt true. When choosing a cabin for your upcoming cruise you might run across the terms port and starboard. Both have fantastic itineraries that take passengers not only to the Inside Passage but also Anchorage Denali National Park the Yukon Kenai Peninsula Talkeetna and Fairbanks.
From catching waves on the FlowRider surf simulator or getting active at SeaPlex the largest indoor activity space at sea with bumper cars flying trapeze roller skating basketball and more. The characters are usually out there and its great people watching. Some Alaska itineraries are unique in that they tend to focus on one specific geographic direction.
If you are in the water facing the port side of the ship the bow will be on your left and the aft will be on your right. Most people prefer the left port side going southbound because there are more views of land the other side is great for ocean sunsets Dont count on seeing bears from the cruiseship though it is a possibility. However when you are going down the Inside Passage there will be land on both sides anyways because.
Its just my personal opinion of course. On my last Alaskan cruise most of the whales were on the starboard side. Those terms are for reference of the ship only.
For southbound cruises I also suggest mid-ship or aft rather than forward. Never try to sound sailor savvy by referencing your personal left and right as port and starboard. Alaska is very much a seasonal as opposed to year-round cruise destination generally open to cruising from May through September although some smaller ships start up in late Apr.
This is nautical lingo for the left and right sides. A Transatlantic Cruise may not matter because you have ocean on both sides of the ship for many days but an Alaskan Cruise may make a difference. As the ship is moving forward the port side is left.
